In case of single signal the operator has to wait until restoration of the signal. In case of two signals, the operator must notice failure of one signal then move to second signal which may not be fully relied upon since the operator has to continuously monitor the signals. This problem can be overcome by use of this equipment, Optical Redundant Switch – ORS 901. This instrument would receive two input signals and transmit one of them to the output depending on the settings. Thus the switching would happen automatically without any human interface, thus avoiding any delays. Thus auto-redundancy can be achieved.
