Tulsi (also known as Holy Basil) is recognized as one of the India's most sacred herbs because of its healing properties. Originated in India thousands of years ago, tulsi is known to promote wellness by building the body’s immune system, reducing stress, and promoting mental clarity. The India tea region of Assam manufactures more than 51 percent of the tea sold in India and 13 percent of the tea sold worldwide. While these percentages include green and black tea, they do indicate the enormity of the tea-production industry in the region, which employs approximately one million workers.

What makes green tea different is that it is the least processed tea, and therefore, it contains more antioxidants than black or oolong tea. Heat is applied to the freshly picked green tea leaves before the leaves have had a chance to turn brown, preventing them from undergoing the oxidation (fermentation) process that occurs with black teas, and allowing them to retain their natural green colour, since the chlorophyll remains in the leaves.

China, Japan, and India all produce green tea leaves. Japanese green leaf tea has a fresh, grassy flavour, while Chinese green tea leaf is semi-fermented (or semi-oxidized), giving it a slightly smoky taste. Chinese green tea leaf is typically pan-fired, and Japanese green tea leaf is steamed. This produces a medium-bodied Assam lonf leaf green tea that is flavourful, malty with a pleasing note of honey. Assam green tea is smooth and satisfying, well-structured, high in tannins, but not so bitter. It has a smooth, almost silky texture, very mild astringency and very little bitterness, even when subjected to high temperatures.

Though the Chinese have been enjoying tea since ancient times, and China was, for centuries, the world's only national tea exporter, indigenous tea plants were discovered growing wild in Assam in 1824, and soon commercial tea cultivation began there in earnest. Since that time, India has become the world's largest tea exporter, though most of the nation's tea is enjoyed at home.
