The ministry of external affairs in India is the authority which is responsible for the issuance of the passport and visas to the Indian citizens. It is done by The Consular Passport and Visa (CPV), which is the division under the Ministry of External affairs of India.

You can apply for the Indian passport in any of the Passport office which is located in all the major jurisdiction area of the major cities and districts in India. If one wishes to apply for an Indian passport, he/she can get an application form from any of the passport office nearby or from the designated passport outlets in your city. Some important documents are to be attached with a completely filled application form along with certificate/proof of residence, date of birth certificate, passport size photographs etc.

When submitting the application form for passport self attested copies of certificates/documents are cross checked against the original documents at the Passport Office by the officials. If sending the application form by post, the duplicate copies of the original documents should be attested by a gazetted officer. Normally it takes approximately five to six weeks of time for the issuance of a passport from the passport authority of India.

But in case of emergency, a passport can be applied under the tatkal scheme. Tatkal scheme allows an applicant to get a passport by a payment of some additional fees along with the normal passport application fee.

VISA
If foreign individual or national wants to come n visit india for various purpose they need to posses a valid passport and a valid visa from the Indian official. Unlike may other countries, there is no provision that an individual can get a visa on arrival in India further no fees is being charged at the airport for immigration. A foreign national travelling to India should ensure a that they possess a valid Indian passport before leaving their country. Only people from Nepal and Bhutan do not require an Indian visa to enter india. People from Maldives can also enter India without a Visa for a period of 90 days.

For the issuance of the Indian visas The Consular Passport and Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs is responsible who are also responsible for the issuance of Indian passport. The visa is issued for specific purpose to visit India on the basis of studies, job, tourist etc.

The right is reserved by the High Commission on deciding and granting the visa and duration for which it will be valid irrespective of the fees which was paid during the time of application. Visa fee is non- refundable and is subjected to change without any notice.
