Water Hammer Demonstration Unit The apparatus is designed to demonstrate shock waves in water at sonic velocity. Closing the pneumatic valve causes the pressure to rapidly attain a theoretical value and remain practically constant as the shock wave travels the length of the pipe, returning to the transducer as a negative pressure wave. The time required for the positive pressure wave to travel through the pipe is used to calculate the speed of sound in water. When the pressure attains the vapour pressure of the water in the conduit, it causes cavitation. Teaching objectives Demonstration of the phenomenon of water hammer. Demonstration of cavitation. Calculation of the velocity of sound in water. Investigation of damping phenomena in pipes.

Consists of a full length metal upright 245cm long graduated in cms, to be mounted vertically near a wall by means of two brackets. A light weight accurate frictionless wheel of 10cm dia is mounted on it's top. Three adjustable clamps move along the rod. Upper carrying a ring and lower carrying a platform and the third is equipped with electric release system. The unit is all metallic and complete with two sets of falling weights and rider weight.

Tom 106: coriollis component of acceleration description:- the set-up is designed to study coriollis component of acceleration of slider crank mechanism. Here the mechanical slider system is replaced by a continuous steam of water flowing through a steady rotating pair of tubes. These tubes can be rotated at various speeds by using a swinging field motor which also acts as dynamometer. A perspex window on top of tank gives clear view of the process and prevents splashing of the water over the side of the tank. The dynamometer continuously measures torque applied to the rotating tubes. The equipments are self contained, water re-circulating, provided with its own speed control unit and separate water circulating pump.
