Limit switches can be provided to know the position of the valves by an electrical signals. One or two limit switches are provided depending on the requirement to know if the valve is open or closed. This can be done by extending the seats in such a manner that it is always in contact with the ball, thus avoiding the gap. This type of ball valve is known as cavity filler ball valve.

Stainless steel investment castings are sand blasted to remove grinding filing marks and other irregularities. This leads to blackening of the castings. Usually these castings are assembled as it is, making the ball valve look darkened. Some customers complain that the valves do not appear like stainless steel. To solve this problem the valves are electropolished to give them a bright look.

Usually to fabricate ball valves, where standard castings are not available, welding is preferred. Welding poses some major challenges, such as formation of heat affected zones which may have different material properties and color. Improper welding can also lead to leakage and rework. Moreover, the reworked valve's appearance is unacceptable. To overcome this hurdle, a new technology to join the flanges was developed. Here the flanges and valve bodies are screwed together and machined to eliminate gaps. These bonds are leak-proof and the appearance of the valves is excellent.
