    Smashing is the process of compressing and removing the air from the folds and flattening of the Overall area of the Book-Blocks. Smashing strokes can be set in multiples to suit the compacting requirement for the desired rectangular shape. After the Smashing cycle the Book-Block is held firmly and Nipping operation follows for knocking out the excessive swell in the spine. Book-Block should be rectangular in shape and free from extreme gradients in the folded sewn area for quality & enhanced life of the BOOK. Smashing strokes (adjustable) � from one to nine with two Nipping strokes, timing set in increments of 0.1 Seconds through the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). The Smashing and Nipping hydraulic pressure is adjustable. Production speed of 600 to 700 Books (single Book of 30mm spine thickness) per hour can be achieved. Some of the other operator friendly features on the PLC are Manual & Semi-Auto option &Counter for number of Books processed. Dedicated Switches for Clamping (Smashing) and Nipping functions provided on the control Panel. Emergency and Recycle Push-buttons are located conveniently on the Top Cover. For operator�s safety: both the Push- Buttons need to be pressed simultaneously and Emergency Switch aborts the cycle immediately in case of an accident. The process ensures that the Book-Blocks maintain its rectangular shape, which is free from extreme gradients in the folded sewn area. The section - sewn signatures / Book-blocks are held under set pressure with spine resting on the flat surface to ensure rightangle reference of the spine in relation to the height of the book.The books upto a maximum pile size of 710mm can be processed at a time with pile under hydraulic pressure ranging from 1000- 1500kgs. The pile is hydraulically raised for turning the same to 180 with Spine-section exposed. Apply Glue with the help of a brush or sponge, a very thin layer of Glue/Adhesive (preferably flexible, non-swelling Synthetic such as polyvinyl or Animal/Jelly Glue etc. is recommended). Ensure that the amount of Glue applied to the Spine should be just adequate to sufficiently seal the adjoining signatures. The Dryer Unit equipped with Quartz IR Heaters and High Speed fans is brought over the Book Spine Area by sliding the Unit towards operating side. The Adhesive is dried within 2-3 minutes. The Dryer Unit is pushed back to its reset position on completion of the set-time. Book Spine Pre-Gluer Press is a neat cuboid of a machine sturdily built for processing Book-blocks economically with space / power saving and simple to operate for consistent quality.

Rounding & Backing is the most important requirement in Hard-cover Binding Process to withstand heavy stresses with the help of structural shape similar to architectural curvilinear form identical to Roman Arch, thus attaining overall durability, usability and enhanced aesthetics. Rounding: Convex shaped spine generally required for soft-cover bound Bibles, Diaries and Note-Books etc. The process of Rounding is to bring the swell into a controlled form in which the spine-width does not extend beyond the Edge of the Book-block. Rounding is produced by means of two rollers rotating uniformly under hydraulic pressure to a pre-set Arch. Backing: The process of shaping a shoulder or creating space for formation of the Joints on both sides of the Binding (Spine) Edge. Space known as BACKING is provided to accommodate the Board-thickness and covering material of the Case. The rounded spine is evenly distributed by means of a Backing Roller as the signatures are flared from the center outward to progressively interlock with each other at 45 towards the edges, thus forming the BACKING. Effects of Rounding and Backing on the Text Book: The signatures of the Book remain flat at the centre and those in-between, form the backing, providing a hinge line from which the cover will pivot. Unlike flat backed Text-books, the strain on the signatures is relieved allowing the spine to retain its shape while enhancing comfort level in opening. The easier a Text-book opens, the longer it will last.Robust, reliable and simple to operate, as soon as the Book-block is inserted and the foot-switch activated, the machine will maintain the curvature automatically. The curvature of the convex shape and the size of backing can be set to suit respective Book-block requirement. PLC based operating panel ensures consistent results and easy diagnostics.
