Investment casting (Lost Wax Process) is universally accepted as one of the most efficient and economical manufacturing technology. Components with complex shape and design can be manufactured with eliminate or minimize machining. Die casting produces parts that are durable and dimensionally stable, while maintaining close tolerances. Investment Casting is one of the oldest manufacturing processes. In this process, a wax pattern is created using a stereo lithography or similar computer modelling techniques. This wax pattern is dipped or “invested” into refractory slurry, which coats the wax pattern and forms a mould. This is dried and the process of dipping in the slurry and drying is repeated until a robust thickness is achieved. After this, the entire pattern is placed in an oven and the wax is melted away. Investment casting is often referred to as "lost-wax casting" because the wax pattern is melted out of the mold after it has been formed.
