Presto’s Box Compression Tester is used to determine the compression strength or stacking potential of cartons, paper tanks, beehive crates, paper cases, etc. It is designed specially to calculate the compression strength of the box and the weight range chosen to completely crush with a predetermined load for a given time period to estimate stacking load with the help of motorized arrangement. Box compression tester is a rugged instrument with user-friendly controls. Cardboard boxes should have an adequate compression potency so that they do not get crushed when placed one above the other during storage. The Compression strength – BCT of a box can be determined by placing a carton on a rigid metallic base plate and pushing it down from the top with the help of concurrent movable plate. The instrument is available with digital indicator and with a pre-fitted computer system to measure the strength digitally and in graphical format respectively. The whole instrument is set on heavy duty iron plates for stability. In this procedure, weight of specific range is chosen to completely crush the specimen in a set time period to measure the maximum stacking load. It is a solid instrument which requires sufficient space in a laboratory to place with user-friendly controls. Cardboard boxes must have sufficient compression strength so that they do not get crushed when stack one above the other at the time of transportation or storage. The compression strength of a carton is gauged simply by placing a test specimen say, corrugated box or carton between two parallel plates.
