In solar hostel lighting systems, the solar panels are fixed on the roof of the hostel, which collects the energy from the sun. It is then converted into electrical energy and stored in batteries. When the sun sets, the solar light switches ON automatically and burns for about 5 hours and turns OFF automatically at around midnight. A manual switch will be provided to run the lights for another 5 hours in case of emergency conditions. Approximately 8 to 12 hours of sunlight a day is enough to light the hostel during at night.
