For example, a North wind is blowing, then the time taken for the pulse to travel from N to S will be less than from S to N, whereas the W to E, and E to W times will be the same. The wind speed and direction can then be calculated from the differences in the times of flight on each axis. This calculation is independent of factors such as temperature.   It is easy to install and maintain because of lightweight and compact, and has no moving parts. For operation in areas where frequent extreme icing conditions will be encountered, built-in, thermostatically controlled heaters are available. YDH AWS-1 Ultrasonic anemometers are provided with a built-in, flux-gate compass, which automatically references the wind direction output to magnetic north, regardless of the sensors orientation. This compass feature, combined with our sensors small size, low weight and low power requirements makes it very easy to transport and deploy for short-term studies. These features also make it the ideal sensor for providing meteorological data input to a computer that performs real time dispersion calculations at an accidental spill or release of hazardous materials. YDH AWS-1 Ultrasonic anemometer measures the wind using the principles described above without any moving mechanical devices, i.e. there are no physical constraints on the sensor response due to mechanical friction, aerodynamic drag, lift or transducer mass. YDH AWS-1 Ultrasonic anemometer is an instrument that exhibits an instantaneous response, has zero threshold, no delay distance and is critically damped. The accuracy of the wind speed measurement is the same as the resolution (0.1 m/s) and is only limited by the electronics of the sensor.

    The Tipping Bucket performs a wide range of rainfall measurements. The receiver is 200 mm in diameter. The Tipping Bucket measures each 0.2, 0.5, 1mm or 0.01 inch of rainfall. It could also include a siphon (optional) that allows rain to flow at a steady rate to the tipping bucket mechanism regardless of rainfall intensity. This system allows control of the “flow rate” of accumulated precipitation. This metering geometry assures higher levels in both accuracy and repeatability during periods of extremely heavy rainfall. Tipping bucket gauges operate by capturing a small volume of water in one of two small buckets as shown in Figure below. Once the rain is captured, the bucket tips and empties. The occurrence of this “tip” is recorded, and precipitation volumes and rates are transmitted as the number of tips and the rate at which they occurred. Tipping bucket rain gauges tend to underestimate precipitation during periods of intense rainfall and in case of frozen precipitation. All gauges tend to underestimate in high wind. But compared to weighing gauges, tipping bucket gauges are less expensive and demand significantly less maintenance.       A radar sensor measures water level by propagating electromagnetic energy with an antenna. Because radar energy reflects and similarly to light,objects in the propagation path reradiate the microwave energy back to the radar antenna. The time it takes for the energy to the return to theenergy back to the radar (travel time) is determinted with the radar’s integral digital signal processing units and software.The resulting travel time is used to determine the distance to the water level. Pulse radar level transmitters provide water level measurement based on the direct measurement of the running time of microwave pulses transmitted to and reflected from the surface of the river being measured. Pulse radar operates in the time domain and therefore it does not require the FFT analysis that characterizes FM-CW radar. Since, the running time for a distance of a few metres is measured in nanoseconds. For this reason, a special time transformation procedure is required to enable these short time periods to be measured accurately. The requirement is for a ‘slow motion’ picture of the transit time of the microwave pulses with an expanded time axis. By slow motion it means milliseconds instead of nanoseconds. Pulse radar has a regular and periodically repeating signal with a high pulse repetition frequency (PRF). Using a method of sequential sampling, the extremely fast and regular transit times can be readily transformed into an expanded time signal. Pulsed radar has several advantages including increased range, lower power consumption, and it does not rely on the Doppler Effect to determine range.\   Functions Direct, time of flight level measurement.
