Spiral-wound gaskets have become extremely popular due to the wide variety of available styles and sizes. Spiral-wound gaskets can be fabricated of any metal which is available in thin strip and which can be welded; therefore, they can be used against virtually any corrosive medium dependent upon the choice of the metal and filler. They can be used over the complete temperature range from cryogenic to approximately 2000°f. This type of gasket can be used in all pressures from vacuum to the standard 2500 psi flange ratings.

Rubber is a most commonly used material for general purpose gasketing. The core difference between asbestos and non-asbestos gaskets is that Asbestos gasket contains asbestos, which is used as a reinforcing fibre whilst non-asbestos gaskets contains non-asbestos reinforcing fibres.Though Asbestos gaskets are high resistance to chemicals and heat,they also make it a harmful substance to work with. That’s why majority of gasket consumers now prefer non- asbestos gaskets that are equal to or better than asbestos gaskets. One type of fibre that is commonly used in manufacturing non-asbestos sheet is aramid fibre and is known for being around 2 to 9 times more durable than asbestos.

Pioneer brand asbestos mill board gaskets are made from blend of the most suitable imported chrysotile asbestos fiber with binder. It is a compactly bound material possessing special qualities of strength smoothness & flexibility. These gaskets are used for automobiles, sheet glass roller conveyers, padding in steel strip industries.

Pioneer brand metal jacketed gaskets are normally supplied with high temperature asbestos filler. The standard filler is normally sufficient for applications up to 900° F. Other soft fillers are available for higher temperatures or special applications including graphite. Standard metals used to make jacketed gaskets, regardless of the type are: Copper, Stainless steel types - 304, 316 & 321, Brass, Aluminum, Soft steel & Nickel.-Double Jacketed Gasket - Double - jacketed gaskets are probably the most commonly used style of gasket in heat exchanger / applications. Since most double-jacketed gaskets are custom made, there is virtually no limit to the size, shape or configuration in which these gaskets can be made. It must be remembered that the primary seal against leakage, using a double-jacketed gasket is the metal inner lap where the gasket is thickest before being compressed and densest when compressed. This particular section flows effecting the seal. As a consequence the entire inner lap must be under compression, providing a secondary seal. -Single - Jacketed Gasket - Single-jacketed gaskets are normally used for relatively narrow applications similar to the French type. They are made by encasing a soft filler on one face, both edges and a portion of the other face with a metal. -Single - Jacketed Overlap Gasket - In the single-jacketed overlap construction the maximum flange width is approximately 1/4". This type of gasket is used when total enclosure of the soft filler material is required and then the flange width makes it impractical double-jacketed gasket.

- Plain Flat Metal Gasket - Flat metal gaskets are best suited for applications such as valve bonnets, ammonia fittings, heat exchangers, hydraulic presses, tongue-and-groove joints. Flat metal gaskets are relatively inexpensive to produce and can be made of virtually any material that is available in sheet form. - Solid Metal Shim / Washer / Gasket - Pioneer Brand Shims & Washers are manufactured from stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminum & phosphor bronze in Round, Square, Rectangular, Oval & Hex shape. - RTJ Joint Gasket - Ring type joint gaskets come in two basic types, an oval cross section and an octagonal cross section. These basic shapes are used in pressures up to 10,000 psi. The octagonal cross section has a higher sealing efficiency than the oval and would be the preferred gasket. Dimensions for API ring joint gaskets and grooves are covered by ANSI B16.20 and API 6A.
