      Similar to the Valves of the heart, In a piping system also Valves regulates, controls, isolates and directs the flow of the fluid. Valves alone account for almost 10 percent of the cost of total piping system. In ancient times tree branches were used to regulate water. The Roman Empire was unmatchable in early days in controlling and storage of fresh waters. In fact, the castellum was the first water Sewerage system in the historic city of Pompeii. The distribution and regulation of water from the aqueduct through 3 outlets was done by the castellum. Egg shaped Lead Pipe was used in the transportation of water. Unfortunately, the ancient city of Pompeii was buried under the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The excavations have led to the finding of bronze valves which were used to pump water uphill to the castellum.   In a Modern piping system Valves alone account for almost 10 percent of the cost of total piping system. Few types of Commonly used Industrial Valves:     Ball Valves-Have spherical closure unit which allows flow of fluid when the bore is positioned in the direction of pipeline and closes when bore is perpendicular to the pipeline. Globe Valves- Are use primarily to stop, regulate or throttle the pressure of a fluid. They are linear motion valves and are commonly found in Ships. Gate Valves- Are designed to be fully opened or fully closed. They are not used for regulating pressure of a fluid. Commonly used in water and sewage systems. Butterfly Valves-The Quarter turn rotational motion valves. The Quarter turn provides complete closure or opening of the Valve. Check Valves- Mostly used in the Steam piping systems these valves allow the fluid to pass in one direction and blocking it in the reverse direction. Most of the Valves leak and spray outs with time and is very common to the industrial setting. Primary reasons being:   1. Cannot be closed due to foreign particles, dust and debris.   2. Seat or the seal of the Valve gets damaged with time.   3. After few days when he tried to use the TFE-gas, nothing came out of the cylinder. He decided to cut the cylinder with the help of his assistant. To his surprise, the TFE-gas has polymerized into a waxy white powder. Which was eventually called PTFE and patented by DuPont? Today, PTFE is sold by different manufacturers under several brand names. Dale Kleist a researcher was trying to weld to two glass blocks to form an airtight seal. The accidentally molten glass was hit by compressed air which resulted in an easy way of creating fiberglass. PTFE Coated Fibreglass Fabric - Comprising the coat which is PTFE and the substrate-Fibreglass Fabric adhered together through a coating system.PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), when coated on fiberglass fabric, makes it a high tensile membrane. PTFE makes the fabric thermally stable, resistant to chemicals, insoluble in almost all solvents, UV resistant, flexible and does not break when subject to stress, high resilience characteristics, lowest friction coefficients, dielectric constant, nonflammable, waterproof and excellent insulator. Whereas Fibreglass maintains the structural function of the fabric. Fiberglass has high modulus elasticity and high tensile strength. We take utmost care in choosing the fabric for the flange guards so that there are no pin holes which eventually may lead to accidents. Coating thickness is checked so that guard can perform in extreme conditions for extended periods. We use Kevlar threads which are strongest and decomposes at 800 degrees Fahrenheit or 426 degrees Celsius. Kevlar threads have very little stretch and are 2-3 times stronger than nylon or polyester. Kevlar threads are only available in Yellow colour and are very expensive. All our flange guards are made of multiple layers of PTFE Coated fiberglass fabric with an inner scrim.   The inner scrim helps the guard in holding on to the flanges. Braided PTFE coated ropes are used on the guard which are fire retardant and do not decompose in extreme conditions. Cotton or nylon ropes will not last under these extreme conditions and eventually compromise the safety of the guard.
