LT Aerial Bunched cables, also known as LT AB Cables, are distinct from bare conductor overhead distribution. They are good for distribution of electricity to residential, commercial and industrial units. These cables have overcome limitations of PVC insulated cables such as thermal degradation, poor moisture resistance and thermoplastic nature. LT AB cables have higher current rating, higher short circuit rating approximately 1.2 times that of PVC. LT AB Cables have lower cost of laying because of comparatively smaller diameter of cable and higher weight. Installation charges are also low as diameter of the cable is comparatively lesser with smaller bending radius, requiring less space. For longer cable length voltage drop, one size lower cables can be used as compared to PVC insulated cable. LT AB CABLE - FEATURES AB cables are highly reliable and insulation has been developed to withstand extreme cold and intense sunlight. Disturbance and faults occur five to ten times more often in open wires lines than in AB cable lines. There is no risk in touching the live cable and the insulation reduces the number of short circuits and over voltage faults in overhead cables during thunderstorms. Since, the tension from the current carrying conductor is totally removed by introduction of messenger wire, the operating temperature of the conductor is 90 c as against 75 c thereby allowing AB cable to carry current equivalent to that of bare conductor of the same size.

Stranded Copper or Aluminum conductors are first coated with Semi Conductor compound and then insulated by XLPE compound as per the requirements of the IS for various cored cables. This core is now coated again with semi conductor compound. Copper tape now wraps to fully cover this semi conductor coated core. For three cores cable all these copper taped cores are then laid up tied up and polyester taped. These laid up cores are then inner sheathed with PVC ST2 compound. Armouring is then done by GI round wires or strip wires wound on this inner sheath.These laid up cores duly inner sheathed and armoured are then inner sheathed with PVC/FR PVC/FRLS PVC or FRZH sheathing compound.

KEI manufactures HT cables up to 220KV conforming to National and International Standards at Bhiwadi plant. KEI has State of Art HT cable plant with German technology. The manufacturing capability is upto 220KV. HT plant is complete with heavy duty machines for wire drawing and conductor making, laying up, armouring , sheathing and packing. The process commences with a compacted circular conductor being fed from the pay off stands into the extruder on elevated platform. The conductor passes through extruder’s crosshead, it is covered first with semiconducting screen layer then the XLPE insulation, followed by the outer semiconducting core screen. This crosshead is specially designed to feed three compounds from three extruders at one point described as Singe point Triple extrusion. Thereafter, the extruded core enters and passes through vulcanizing line known as CCV line (Continuous Catenary Vulcanising) and the XLPE insulated core is cured in the process. In CV line inert atmosphere is maintained by the Nitrogen gas which is at high pressure and high temperature. This process is popularly known as Single point Triple extrusion CDCC(Completely Dry Cured and Cooled Curing)

KEI also manufactures other types of cables as listed at the end of this catalogue. CROSS LINKED POLYETHYLENE (XLPE) XLPE means cross-linked polyethylene or vulcanized polyethylene. The basic material is low density polyethylene. Polyethylene is a thermoplastic material consisting of long chain of hydrocarbon molecules. At elevated temperatures these molecules tend to move relative to one another so that the material becomes increasingly deformable and will eventually melt at the temperature around 110oC. By means of process similar to the vulcanization of rubber the polyethylene molecules can be cross-linked. The process of cross-linking or vulcanization consists of producing chemical bonds at interval between the long molecular chain to give a "ladder" effect which prevents slippage between molecules. As a result of cross-linking the material becomes heat resistant and does not soften at higher temperatures. Further it has better resistance to stress cracking and good resistance to ageing in hot air. With the change of structure there is no adverse effect on electrical properties.
