Drilling fluids help maximize rate of penetration - ROP while maintaining hole-stability, circulation & pressure control in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Among many minerals used in drilling fluids, Barites & Bentonite are largely far the most significant. Bentonite used in drilling fluids accounts for approximately 25% of world Bentonite demand. Barite is the drilling fluid mineral with nearly 85% of world production consumed by the industry. Barites or Barium Sulphate has a specific gravity (SG) of upto 4.50 when pure. Its chemical composition is 65.7% BaO and 34.3% SO3. As a naturally occurring mineral mined by primitive means & occurring in a variety of geological settings.

Ashapura has sizeable deposits of Attapulgite in Bhavnagar district, Gujarat. Total proven reserves of Attapulgite are estimated to be in the region of around 8000,000 tonnes. The deposits consist of needle-shaped bundles of Attapulgite mixed with dolomite. The company has established a plant in Bhavnagar city, which incorporates a number of extruders and tow hammer mills and a production capacity of up to 60,000 tonnes per annum.
