Mixed-bed deionizers are normally used to ‘polish’ the water to higher levels of purity after it has been initially treated by either a two-bed deionizer or a reverse osmosis unit.In mixed-bed deionizers the Strong Acid Cation and Strong Base Anion resins are closely mixed and contained in a single pressure vessel. The thorough mixture of resins in a single column makes a mixed-bed deionizer equivalent to anextended series of two-bed plants. As a result, the water quality obtained from a mixed-bed deionizer is appreciably higher than that produced by a two-bed plant.

A demineralizer is a system, which uses ion exchange chemical process to remove dissolved ionic compounds (salts) from water. It is also known as Deionized Water System, Demineralizer or DM Plant. A typical Demineralization Plant (DM Plant) consists of two vessels. The feed water or raw water is passed through first vessel i.e. containing strong base cation resin in the form of Hydrogen (H+), whereupon all the positively charged ions (sodium, calcium, iron and copper etc.) are exchanged for Hydrogen ions; after that, the water further passed through another vessel containing strong base anion resin in the form of Hyudroxyl (OH-), whereupon all the negatively charged ions (chloride, sulphate, nitrate, etc) are exchanged for hydroxide ions which then combine with the hydrogen ions to form water.

Pressure filters typically offer lower initial and operating costs than conventional systems, and the package nature of these systems greatly simplifies the design and installation for the engineer and contractor. Specifically, pressure filter systems have been developed to focus on common ground water problems like iron, manganese and hardness. For high iron and manganese applications, our pressure filters can be provided with manganese green sand and potassium permanganate feed systems.

A mixed bed exchanger has both cation and anion resin mixed together in a single vessel. As water flows through the resin bed, the ion exchange process is repeated many times, "polishing" the water to a very high purity. During regeneration, the resin is separated into distinct cation and anion fractions. The resin is separated by backwashing, with the lighter anion resin settling on top of the cation resin. Regenerant acid is introduced through the bottom distributor, and caustic is introduced through distributors above the resin bed. The regenerant streams meet at the boundary between the cation and anion resin and discharge through a collector located at the resin interface. Following regenerant introduction and displacement rinse, air and water are used to mix the resins. Then the resins are rinsed, and the unit is ready for service.

Unlike competitive designs with MSRL pressure vessels Chemion Engineering Industrial mixed bed deionisers are built entirely with FRP pressure vessels which are resistant to corrosion which is one of the major causes of failure. The feature is a Single lever operated multiport valve op-eration as against 16 valves for other designs making the operation very easy and eliminates human error associated with normal and regeneration process.
