The advanced features help to measure work capacity of muscle during contraction. We are quite popular in the market for the quality, performance and nominal pricing of our Bicycle Ergograph.Construction
Bicycle Ergograph:- It consists of the following parts:
A bicycle frame is supported by a wooden stand, from the front of which
two uprights ascent and carry a desk and cross piece which provide for the
attachment, directly in front of the subject, of the tension balances and
other pieces of apparatus.
A cast iron wheel 5 ½ ft. in circumference, weighing 22 kg and mounted on
ball-bearing is substituted for the back wheel. This wheel has slightly
beveled edges and is turned true.
To the circumference of this, a stount calico is applied, and the two ends of
the band are attached to spring balances of 6lbs. range (graduated in 1 oz.)
attached to a board at the top of the uprights.
The cords from the calico-band to the balance pass round adjustable
pulleys in order to give them the right direction. An adjustable record
counter records the revolutions of the wheel.
Procedure
Note the temperature of the spirometer and the barometric pressure.Record the height (cm) and weight (kg) and note age and sex of the subject.
Note the heart rate of the subject by auscultation over the precordium andthe BP with sphygmomanometer again by auscultation method.
Arrange the spirometer and measure the resting oxygen consumption, also make a note of resting parameters like TV, frequency of breathing, minute ventilation.
After a short rest period, the subject is asked to sit on bicycle ergometer adjust the metronome and he is instructed to pedal the bicycle at a rate of 50 times per minute, which is equivalent to about 130 revolutions per minute (R.P.M.) at the wheel.
Adjust the tension load (breaking resistance) at the belt at 2 kg; he is thenasked to respire from the mouth piece while it is connected to the atmosphere. For first 5-6 minutes, the pedaling rate is kept constant and the heart rate, respiratory rate and B.P. are noted.
When three readings are consistent the subject presumably has reached asteady state and is then connected to the spirometer. A one minute recordshould be taken O2 consumption during this period determined. Also notethe exact R.P.M. of the wheel from the revolution counter attached to the bicycle wheel.
Calculate the O2 consumption per minute during the period of exercise. Also circulate the respiratory parameters from the same record.
Allow the subject torecoverand note his heart rate, respiratory rate and BP during recovery each minute.
{Important Note: Before starting the exercise test every subject is instructed to signal with his hand in case he feels intolerably breathless, fatigued in legs, giddy, pain, constriction or suffocation in the chest.
