AIR – OIL SEPARATORSDuring the last century compressed air became associated with many industrial applications and compressor manufactures focused their attention on rotary screw and vane compressor whose compression systems use lubricating oil as a coolant. Hence the necessity of using air/oil separators.
Fleetguard designs and manufactures separators specifically for installation in rotary screw andRotary vane compressors and they are available in vertical, horizontal and spin on configurations. Their purpose is to separate the oil droplets from the compressed air, thereby producing cleaner air and allowing the oil to be scavenged and re-circulated in the compressor.
Fleetguard separators are manufactured to satisfy OEM’s needs in terms of :-Physical principle of air/oil separation-Element dimensions according to the compressor’s performance and tank dimension.-Oil consumption to ensure a correct functional performance-Use of high grade filtration and separation media to ensure the best quality of clean air neededfor industrial applications.Additionally it is very important to highlight that Fleetguard separators can be used with all types of oils, whether standard, mineral based, synthetic or partially synthetic.
In order to decide which is the best separator to be used for a specific compressor, OEMs have to consider what level of separation needs to be achieved, in other words to target the minimum of parts million of residual oil content required.
Then a technical solution is needed in order to reduce the oil concentration in the air.Often OEMs need to consider a pre-separation system, which will reduce the PPM and increase the life of the air/oil separator

Careful welding procedures and the use of the latest twin pack adhesive ensure that the element has high mechanical strength and can endure operating temperature up to 120°C.Normally, the air and oil mixture passes from the outside to the inside of separator and the coalescing effect is carried out through a multi stage separation process resulting in the recovery of the oil and producing clean air.
PRESSURE DROP – EFFICIENCY AND PERFORMANCE At a nominal working pressure of 7 bar, the pressure drop on a new element varies between approximately 0.15 and 0.25 bar.By using our separators, the oil carryover after separation is limited to about 1 to 3 ppm. The life of the separator depends on many factors : the designs and regular maintenance of the compressor, clean environment, working temperature, quality of the air and oil filters. To ensure maximum separator efficiency, the joints must create a perfect seal. Correct installation and also using the correct type of oil Fleetguard separators can have a life expectancy of many thousand of hours.

Principal of operation
Drying Cycle : Moist air from the compressor is sent through the coalescing filter. Here water & oil coalesces, gets purged through the auto drain valve.
The relatively clean air with water vapour passes through the aluminum drying tower filled with desiccant gets completely dried (upto 40 c dew point) and then passes through a built in after filter. The desiccant fines from the towers are completely removed and clean dry air is let out through the outlet port for use.
Regeneration cycle : During the regeneration cycle. The sudden depressurization brings out water molecules trapped in the Desiccant pores to the surface of the beads. A small portion dry compressed air from the drying TOWER then passes over the desiccant through the regeneration orifice built in the Top Block. This results in complete regeneration of the Desiccant.

Operation The Blower Heat Reactivated Dryer works on the principle Thermal swing. The desiccant adsorbs moisture from the compressed air to deliver dry air. The desiccant bed saturates over a period of time. The saturated bed is regenerated by heating with hot air generated using a blower. Hence the dryer is called blower heat reactivated desiccant dryer. Since the temperature of the bed swings between the compressed air temperature and the regeneration temperature it is called Thermal swing type. The hot air from the blower passed through a heater. This makes the air very dry. The hot air then heats up the desiccant bed. When the bed is heated it gives up the moisture adsorbed and is ready for adsorption. The hot air carries this moisture to the atmosphere. After the regeneration, heated desiccant bed is cooled by the flow of air to suit the application conditions. Final Cooling is achieved by a no loss compressed air cooling method, resulting in a no Dewpoint spike system. Trident dryer comes with a dewpoint based control system as a standard. The tower changeover takes place only when the bed is saturated, resulting in energy saving and extended life. The dryer with its control valves and controller manages the drying, regeneration and repressurisation of the desiccant columns automatically and thereby delivering continuous dry compressed air.Blower Heat Reactivated Dryers are best suited for applications requiring large volume of compressed air at low dewpoint. For the above conditions the dryer works out very economical energy wise. Trident blower heat reactivated dryers are built from the start for customization.
