PSA Oxygen Gas Plants separates oxygen from compressed air utilizing pressure swing adsorption technology. Compressed Air, which consists of approximately 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen, is passed through a bed of zeolite molecular sieve. The sieve preferentially adsorbs N2 and moisture allowing the O2 to pass through as a product gas at pressure. While one of the towers is in the adsorption phase the other tower is regenerated by de-pressurizing, at which time the sieve releases the adsorbed gases to the atmosphere, and the cycle is then repeated. Before feeding the air to the PSA tower refrigerated type air dryer and set of filters are installed to cool the air and remove moisture and dust particles.

Atmospheric Air is sucked in by a multi stage Compressor through a filter and is compressed to the design pressure,The compressed Air is then passed through inter-coolers, Industrial Refrigerator, Moisture Separators, and then to the Molecular Sieve Battery for removal of Carbon Dioxide, Hydrocarbons and Moisture from the process Air. This pure Air then passes through the 1st Heat Exchanger, where it is cooled by the out going Nitrogen and Oxygen. Part of this cooled Air is passed through Expansion Engine and the other part through the 2nd Heat Exchanger. Both the Expansion Engine and 2nd Heat Exchanger help in further cooling down the Air, which is finally released to the bottom of the column through an expansion valve. The Air becomes liquid at this stage.

For Instance High Purity nitrogen DX model is introduced in the field of NITROGEN GENERATION PROCESS, As DX Process leads to reduce oxygen content as low as it can i.e. below 5 ppm. A PSA system is followed by additional purification unit using palladium as catalyst for removal of oxygen & moisture contents upto 1 PPM, Level with mostly desirable reducing constituent hydrogen (adjustable). The Palladium –Deoxo unit, used industrially ran with additional hydrogen feed, for exothermic reaction : O2 + 2H2 ----- 2H2O is run with one reactor filled with Palladium Catalyst. The Nitrogen, coming directly from the PSA system with the remaining oxygen, is mixed over mixer with Hydrogen before entering the catalyst reactor. At the catalyst surface the oxygen reacts with hydrogen to produce water and heat. The heat and water have to be removed by a standard water after cooler and gas dryer to required level. The remaining hydrogen concentration in the Nitrogen is around 0.5 to 1% minimum. The high purity DX-Model finds application in chemical/electronics/metallurgical industries.
