Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) describes a process that completely eliminates liquid discharge from a system. The goal of any well-designed ZLD system is to minimize the volume of wastewater that requires treatment, process wastewater in an economically feasible manner,while also producing a clean stream suitable for reuse elsewhere in the facility. Interest in Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) technology has grown in the industrial manufacturing sector over the past decade.

Forced Circulation Evaporator for concentration of high viscosity material and products with higher solids. This is also used as evaporative crystallizer. To achieve desired concentration Falling Film Evaporator followed by Forced Circulation Evaporator is used to minimize the operating cost. In this type of evaporator, the liquid is pumped through tube side of Calandria at high velocity avoiding precipitation and fouling;the liquid is then passed through vapor separator for separation of vapor. Concentrated liquid is continuously discharged from bottom of the vapor separator with pump.

Multiple effect evaporator [MEE] Design commonly uses sensible heat in the condensate to preheat liquor to be flashed. In practice the design liquid flow paths can be somewhat complicated in order to extract the most recoverable heat and to obtain the highest evaporation rates from the equipment.
