Simplified Spacer Selection
Spacers are divided into six models which address a wide range of pipe sizes. All of the elements are designed according to different applications. They must ensure different static and dynamic characteristics in order to guarantee the safest job on site. Each group offers varying ssupport heights which allow the Spacers to clear bell joints, flanges, couplings or simply to offer better centering. The available height ranges from 15 to 200mm.
Choose the right spacer: Choosing the right Spacer provides the best long term protection for the carrier pipe. The choice of the Spacer depends on the O.D. of the carrier pipe including the coating thickness, the I.D. of the casing pipe, the crossing lengths and the medium in the pipe.
Ring spacing: The spacing between rings is calculated to ensure that the pipe is fully supported throughout its length. The length of the crossing and the linear weight of the filled carrier pipe are the main factors which determine the spacing between the rings. To balance the effects of differential loading at the entrance and exit points of the casing, it is recommended to provide two rings at the beginning and the end of the crossing segment
Choosing the height of the element: The elements are also available in different heights except for the C-D-I-S-T model, to cover the mechanical joints or simply to obtain a concentric assembly. In case of carrier pipes made of ductile iron or pipes with flanged junctions, the height of each element must be above the mechanical joint (bell or flange).
Spacer Extensions: When a higher element height is required, extensions are available in 110mm,146mm, 171mm and 197 mm heights. These extensions fit easily over the regular spacers projections.
Tape for plastic pipes: In case of plastic carrier pipe (PVC, PE and similar), it is suggested to tape the contact area between the ring insulator and the carrier pipe, this precaution will allow a firm grip on the smooth surface of the carrier pipe.
Heavy-duty Applications: In case of very long crossings > 150m or for very heavy carrier pipes, it is possible to increase the frequency of the insulating rings, or consider usage of reinforced elements. These elements are designed with an increased wear thickness.
