In a conventional method we can use tool steel for boring or reaming tools upto LD (LengthDiameter) ratio of 5 due to its low static stiffness & damping ratio. Due to this it can be operated at relatively low RPM.For large LD ratios of more than 5, carbide or high density material is used because of its relatively static stiffness & damping properties against tool steel. This high density material can machine only upto 7 LD without chattering & has following disadvantages.
