Mail Coif Riveted / Alternating Flat Rings Aluminum. A mail hood or coif is a close fitting cap that covers the top, back, and sides of the head made from mail. Mail (also maille, and often chainmail or chain maille, is a modern usage) is a type of armour that consists of small metal rings linked together in a pattern to form a mesh. Mail armour provided a highly effective defense against the weapons of the middle ages. Hand crafted from Aluminum (non-rusting) Riveted chainmail rings and alternating flat rings, in the European 4 in 1 mail pattern. The chainmail rings have a 10mm diameter and are made with tough light weight 16 gauge Aluminum. Aluminum is much lighter and is perfect for the costumer or Ren Faire enthusiast who wants to wear mail for long hours without the weight and fatigue that comes with heavier mail.

This fully wearable suit is based on the famous harness housed in the Castle of Churburg in Italy. Believed to have been made in Milan during the second half of the 14th century, this high quality armour is one of the earliest known examples of a near-intact harness. This armour typifies a period when the traditional mail coat, reinforced with varying degrees of plate protection, was still predominant on the battlefields of Europe and predates the full plate suits of the 15th century. Our Churburg armour is fully articulated and wearable. It boasts many of the features found on the original suit. Many of the individual steel plates that make up the breastplate (which has a lance rest attached to the right hand side) and arm-harness are bordered with decorative etched brass strips.
