SMS (Swedish Metric Standards) Union Gaskets also referred to as SMS Sanitary Unions are the Swedish Standards Hygienic fittings.
It consists of four components: A threaded male weld ferrule and female liner weld ferrule, a round slotted nut, and a square cross-section gasket. The gasket is located in the groove within the male part of the union assembly. SMS Union Gaskets are most commonly found in Europe and are identifiable with their rounder threads on the male part. The male part has a square recess where the seal sits. The weld liner has a flat face where the seal sits. This design provides a smooth cervic-free internal bore.
