What is knapping?
knapping is the shaping of stone to make stone tools from cryptocrystalline materials such as chert or flint, radiolarite, chalcedony, basalt, quartzite and obsidian. Stone tools are manufactured to serve as strikers for flintlock firearms, or to produce flat-faced stones for building or facing walls, and flushwork decoration. Knapping is done in a variety of ways depending on the purpose of the final product.
