these points need to be considered while selecting a portfolio book :
durability :
durability is a major factor for pageantry models and modeling-school students. Your portfolio book will be subjected to a lot of wear and tear, so consider a book with a tough poly cover like the non tearable type. Appearance is more important for professionals, so look for insert type or flush mount type or leatherette cover.
page size :
the standard in the professional modeling world is 8x12 photos and tearsheets, so most pro books are only available in that size. The most popular size for students and actors headshots is an 8x10 book, while preteen and pageantry models usually carry an 8x11 book. It's best for your photos to fit your portfolio book exactly, so get your prints made large enough to fill the page.
number of pages :
if you are a novice, 20 pages is plenty. If you're a professional model, you will want another 20 pages for tear sheets. (busy modeling agents and clients usually only study the first several photos in a model portfolio book, so make sure your best shots are in the front) it's all right to have empty pages in your book, so leave your mediocre shots at home.
pockets :
pockets on the inside covers are handy to insert a few of your comp cards, but don't go overboard. If you stuff the pocket, your book will look messy.
for hardcore professional models :
color :
professional portfolio books are almost always black. If you have got a special need for a colored book, or a clear portfolio book, we have those. But when in doubt, get a black book.
page size :
the standard size is 8" x 12" but there are a few markets that use different sizes. You will see a lot of other sizes on our website, and if your agents say to use a certain size, follow their advice. But you can't go wrong with a 8" x 12" portfolio book.
construction :
a professional portfolio has a rigid cover, like a hardback book. It's usually made of leatherette-covered pressboard. The pages are acid free black sheets, and they're permanently bound into the cover. It is imperative that a professional book is flat-as-a-pancake when it is closed. It can be thick as long as it's flat. This is so that a pile of books can be stacked on an agent's desk without them sliding off onto the floor.

pasting type : photos are secured permanently by pasting with adhesive, on pages. Care should be taken that whole surface of print should be glued and no patches left to avoid air pockets.other wise double sided gumming tape can also be used.insert type : photos simply slip into place behind the mats through the center edge, which is left unglued, and are held in place very securely without the need for adhesives.flush mount : photos are pasted on pre gummed pages book, and no border is seen around the print as flush book. It gives a rich bookish type of look.
