General Qualities & Characteristics Cutting Oil are intended for lubrication and cooling of metal surface during metal cutting operations. “Neat” cutting oil are different from”soluble” cutting oil in that the former is immiscible with water. Cutting Oils Containing ‘Free’ sulfur would not be suitable for non-ferrous metals in view of the staining of the latter. Cutting Oil intended for nonferrous metals are mineral oils with or without added fatty oil, and the fatty oil may also be sulphurised in order to provide Extreme Pressure (E.P.) Properties but does not contain any free sulfur. Accordingly, there are three types of Neat cutting Oil. (as per bureau of Indian Standards.)   Type 1 : Mineral oil without added sulphur, having different viscosities, depending on the addition of fatty oil and intended for general machining of mild brass steel, brass and light alloys.   Type 2 : Mineral oil blended with sulphurised fatty oils which is non-staining and intended for use with non-ferrous metals and varying in viscosity.   Type 3 : Sulphurised mineral oil which is staining and intended for use with ferrous metals and only. Mex Quench Oils are general purpose straight mineral quenching oil manufactured from selected crudes of the paraffin type. These grades are refined by an exclusive finishing process an advanced hydrogen refining process which enhances the high resistance to oxidation, long service life and low carbon residue of these quenching oils. Meets the requirements ofIS 2664-1980, Straight mineral oils. Application Requirements : Although fast quenching oil are required for many applications most oil quenching is still performed in conventional, oil of the type exemplified by Mex Quench Oils. With conventional oil, the quenching actions is characterized by a vapor blanket stage which is characterized by a vapor blanket stage which is fairly short, along with a boiling stage that ceases to function at a temperature which is in the vicinity of the Ms point for many steels. General Qualities & Characteristics Mex solube cut is a specially compounded emulsifying cutting oil composed of a petroleum oil and special emulsifiers. It mixes readily with hot or cold water. It forms homogenous and exceptionally stable emulsions, which show no apparent separation after long periods of usage or storage. It also incorporates special biocides to increase coolant life and prevent unpleasant odors experienced as a result to bacterial infection. Meets the specification requirements of IS 1115-1986 and DEF STAN 91323/1(Grade ZX - 1)   Application Requirements : Metal cutting and grinding operations generate heat. The prime requirement, therefore, is to select a fluid, which will reduce generation and increase dissipation of heat. The effectiveness with which this is accomplished has a direct bearing on increasing feed, speed, tool life, and improving surface finish. An efficient and economical way to control heat is to use the excellent cooling properties of water, combined with the lubricating properties of oil. Additionally, an effective cutting and grinding fluid must contain anticorrosion properties to protect the work piece during the manufacturing process. Another characteristic which enhances it usefulness is stability, whether in use or in storage. Recommendations Mex soluble cut is preferred choice for grinding and for machining operations where is of utmost importance. It meets the basic application requirements described above in highly satisfactory and economical manner. Mex soluble cut is usually diluted to oil/water ratios ranging from 1:10 to 1:60. because there are so many variables to be considered from job-to-job, it is impractial to make a specific recommendation of optimum oil to water ratios. However, in general, the richer emulsions are used for the more difficult jobs, the intermediate for the free-machining metals and the lean mixtures when preparing emulsions of Mex soluble cut, always add oil to water.
