Titanium alloys are metals that contain a mixture of titanium and other chemical elements. Such alloys have very high tensile strength and toughness (even at extreme temperatures). They are light in weight, have extraordinary corrosion resistance and the ability to withstand extreme temperatures. However, the high cost of both raw materials and processing limit their use to military applications, aircraft, spacecraft, medical devices, highly stressed components such as connecting rods on expensive sports cars and some premium sports equipment and consumer electronics. Although "commercially pure" titanium has acceptable mechanical properties and has been used for orthopedic and dental implants. Grades of Titanium Titanium Grade 1 is the most ductile and softest titanium alloy. It is a good solution for cold forming and corrosive environments. ASTM/ ASME SB-265 provides the standards for commercially pure titanium sheet and plate. Titanium Grade 2 has moderate strength with excellent cold formability, weldability. This titanium also has excellent resistance to high oxidization. It's available forms are a seamless pipe, welded pipe, seamless tube, welded tube, bar, wire, sheet, plate, forgings, pipe fittings, and flanges. Titanium Grade 3 is an unalloyed titanium grade (CP titanium = commercially pure titanium) with medium oxygen content. characterized by high strength. The grade is typically used for matrix-plates i-shell and tube heat exchangers. Titanium Grade 4 is a much stronger version of Grades 2 and 3 with cold formability and reduced ductility. It's available forms are a seamless pipe, welded pipe, seamless tube, welded tube, bar, wire, sheet, plate, forgings, pipe fittings, and flanges. Titanium Grade 5 also known as Ti6Al4V, Ti-6Al-4V or Ti 6-4, is the most commonly used alloy. It is significantly stronger than commercially pure titanium while having the same stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity, which is about 60% lower in Grade 5 Ti than in CP Ti). Among its many advantages, it is heat treatable. This grade is an excellent combination of strength, corrosion resistance, weld, and fabricability. Titanium Grade 7 contains 0.12 to 0.25% palladium. This grade is similar to Grade 2. The small quantity of palladium added gives it enhanced crevice corrosion resistance at low temperatures and high pH. Grade 7 also has excellent weldability and formability. Titanium Grade 9 / Titanium 3AL2.5V is a medium strength alloy with good weldability and cold fabricability for mildly reducing to mildly oxidizing media. It is commonly used in aircraft tubing for hydraulics and in athletic equipment. Titanium Grade 12 is a titanium grade alloyed with molybdenum and nickel. It is characterized by excellent corrosion resistance in reducing and oxidizing environments and offers better heat resistance than pure titanium grades. It is suitable for applications such as shell and tube heat exchangers and is typically used within, for example, the chemical industries. Titanium Grade 19/Titanium Beta C is a heat treatable, having very high strength alloy with good resistance to stress and corrosion in high temperature. Titanium Grade 23 / Titanium 6AL4V ELI has an improved ductility, toughness in the air, and saltwater environments. It is also used in a non-aged condition for maximum toughness. Nickel has a relatively low work-hardening rate, but it can be cold worked to moderately high strength levels while maintaining ductility. Included in this publication are Nickel 200 and Nickel 201Nickel 200 (UNS N02200) is commercially pure (99.6%) wrought nickel. It has good mechanical properties and excellent resistance to many corrosive environments. Other useful features of the alloy are its magnetic and magnetostrictive properties, high thermal and electrical conductivities, low gas content and low vapor pressure. The corrosion resistance of Nickel 200 makes it particularly useful for maintaining product purity in the handling of foods, synthetic fibers, and caustic alkalies and also in structural applications where resistance to corrosion is a prime consideration. Other applications include chemical shipping drums, electrical and electronic parts, aerospace and missile components.Nickel 201 (UNS N02201) is the low-carbon version of Nickel 200. Typical applications are caustic evaporators, combustion boats, plater bars, and electronic components. Nickel 201, because of its low base hardness and lower work-hardening rate, is particularly suited for spinning and cold forming. It is preferred to Nickel 200 for applications involving exposure to temperatures above 600°F (315°C)

INVAR is melted generally under vacuum.   INVAR (42) - Has the lowest CTE between 20-300 degrees °C.Also known as N 42, created in 1899 as a variation on INVAR 36 with around 41-42 % of nickel, whereas INVAR 42 has the lowest CTE between 20-300 °C. INVAR 42 is melted under vacuum in general. Applicable norm is ASTM F30.KOVAR - The lowest CTE Between 20-500 ºC and equal to glass and ceramics. Created in 1930. This Ni-Co alloy has two typical applications. Between 20-500 °C, KOVAR has the lowest CTE of all alloys or metals. But its CTE is also equal to glass and ceramics. Making it an ideal metal to seal glass metal or ceramic-metal. Many glass sealing systems are built up with KOVAR. KOVAR is melted under vacuum. Applicable norm is ASTM F15. Up to larger sizes than usual, the KOVAR has no phase transformation at -196 °C.
