Measuring soil water potential is never easy. Traditional methods such as pressure plates or filter paper have always been problematic. Not only are they extremely time consuming, but both methods have issues with accuracy. That’s why we developed the WP4C.   Simply accurate. Simply fast. Simple to use. Here’s how it works: The WP4C determines the relative humidity of the air above a sample in a sealed chamber (conforms to ASTM D6836). Once the sample comes into equilibrium with the vapor, relative humidity is determined using the chilled mirror method. This involves chilling a tiny mirror until dew starts to form. At the dew point, the WP4C measures both mirror and sample temperature within 0.001 °C. The wind erosion sediment trap automatically records the aeolically transported sediment material. This is weighed directly in the system and then remains in the weighing pan to be available for subsequent investigations. The body of the system is completely made of stainless steel and consists of a foot, which contains a logger, accumulator and balance as well as rotatably mounted head part with wind flag for the actual sampling. The foot of the system is usually installed underneath in order to guarantee that the wind flow is influenced as little as possible and to ensure a safe stand.\r\nDue to the wind flag, the head part always aligns with the inlet opening in the wind direction so that the air flows directly into the measuring system. There it meets a baffle, from which the sediment particles entrained fall down onto the balance. The air flows out again through the outlet opening, which is applied above the baffle plate. The mass of the sediment is cumulatively recorded by the balance and stored in time in the internal data logger. The start and the intensity of an event can thus also be taken from the recorded data.\r\nIn combination with a weather station the aeolian sediment load can be obtained in connection with the meteorological parameters, in particular the wind conditions. This results in a comprehensive picture of wind-induced erosion. With measuring stations equipped in this way, the weighing data can be recorded via the data logger of the weather station so that no two loggers are required. The energy supply is then taken over by the weather station. As a rule, both the Winderosion sediment trap and the weather station are supplied with electricity by a change-over accumulator. However, the energy supply can also be realized via solar panels for autonomous operation.

The WindLog™ is a compact wind data logger designed to accurately measure and record wind speed, direction, and gust for optimizing turbine placement and performance. What can the Tensio 152 do?\r\nWhen installed, the Tensio 152 is also frost protected because the pressure transducer is situated directly above the ceramic cup and the water tank is therefore exclusively at the depth of installation. The plastic standpipe (PVC Ø = 25 mm) minimizes temperature conduction from colder soil layers. The Tensio 152 freezes with the ground when installed in soil layers near to the surface, but on thawing is immediately functional again and continues the measurement. This means it can be used throughout the year and for long-term monitoring of the soil moisture tension.\r\nThe ceramic cup and standpipe are connected to each other by a transparent acrylic adapter which enables air bubbles to be easily detected. The integrated filling screw permits simple refilling of the tensiometer, which can be carried out by the customer himself.

The run-off measuring system consists of various components that can be used in a modular fashion. The measuring system is used to record and sample surface runoff and the erosion loads it contains. The basic equipment is the autosampler for surface run-off, consisting of an erosion vessel, tipping counter and data logger, among other things. Other components are the measuring plot limitation, the collecting gutter, the divider system, hoses and a bypass tipping counter. There are no bottlenecks in the entire system that could clog, cause backwater or slow down the flow rate. The erosion material can thus be unhindered transported  in the flowing water.\r\nMeasuring plot limitation, collecting gutter, and dividing system\r\nThe measuring plot limitation is a system for the medium and long-term demarcation of a 30 m² (3 m x 10 m) measurement area for collecting surface run-off. In combination with the collecting gutter and the dividing system, the surface run-off can be collected from the plot area and routed via the dividing system to the tipping counters to measure the runoff.\r\nThe collecting gutter consists of a stainless-steel angle construction that is firmly anchored in the ground. The collecting gutter is buried in such a way that no sediment load can accumulate. The cover of the collecting gutter prevents rainwater from entering the collecting gutter.\r\nA separation system is required to limit the flow rate at the inlet of the autosampler for surface run-off. The collecting gutter directs the run-off water to the dividing system. The dividing system contains a perforated plate to keep out large foreign bodies and prevent animals from entering. The dividing system has two outlets at two different heights for connecting tipping counters. The lower connection leads to the tipping counter of the autosampler for surface run-off. When the capacity of the tipping counter is reached, the water flows out via the upper outlet of the dividing system to the bypass tipping counter. The data from both tipping counters is recorded by the data logger.\r\nAutosampler for surface run-off\r\nThe surface run-off is fed into the autosampler via the tipping counter on the erosion vessel. A double-ring bottle magazine is located in the erosion vessel. A processor-controlled swivel arm fills the inner and outer bottle positions (maximum 12 bottles each) fully automatically or empties the collected surface water via the outlet of the erosion vessel.\r\nThe sampling frequency is adapted to the discharge intensity by means of a microcomputer to ensure that the various discharge events can always be optimally recorded. In the case of low run-off volumes, the entire surface run-off captured by the collecting gutter is filled as a sample in order to obtain the largest possible sample quantity. In the case of a high run-off event, on the other hand, sample water is only collected at adjusted time intervals. The remaining water is dumped again after the quantity has been recorded. This prevents all sample bottles from being filled too quickly and ensures that the samples are distributed over the entire discharge event.\r\nThe autosampler for surface run-off is installed below the measuring area in order to generate the flow solely due to the difference in height and not to be dependent on pumps. This creates a free flow and keeps energy consumption to a minimum.\r\nComprehensive picture of runoff and erosion processes\r\nIn combination with meteorological and soil hydrological measuring stations, the run-off measuring system can be used to obtain a comprehensive picture of run-off and erosion processes.

The ku-pF MP10 is a laboratory instrument for the automatic determination of unsaturated hydraulic conductivity ku and the pf curve (water tension curve) in accordance with the evaporation method on up to 10 soil ring samples simultaneously. The ku-pf apparatus works independently of a PC due to the integrated data logger and a microcomputer. A connection must be created to the PC only for maintenance, test start and reading out of the data. The ku-pF apparatus is available as a single measurement station ku-pF SP. \r\n The apparatus is designed for the use of the UGT soil sample rings with 250 cm³ inner volume and 41 cm² cross sectional area. These soil sample rings have bore holes arranged exactly at height intervals of 3 cm for the insertion of the tensiometers. However, they may also be used for obtaining samples separately from the ku-pf apparatus. \r\n The filled soil sample rings are set onto filter plates, saturated and sealed basally in the carrier basket for the test run. The gradient resulting from the condensation on the free ground surface is recorded by two tensiometers which record the corresponding water content and the flow rate by periodical weighing respectively. The Tensio 130 tensiometers with particularly small ceramic cup (Ø = 6,5 mm / L = 20 mm) provide exact measurements with a minimum destruction of the soil. Air bubbles are easy to recognise and eliminate through the acrylic head with bleed screw. \r\n The arrangement of the samples on the star shaped carrier which rotates at the set test interval permits the examination of 10 samples simultaneously. The sample on the weighing position is lifted from the carrier by lifting the scales so that it is standing free. The weighing data and the tensions here are stored on the internal data logger. Automatic measuring produces continuous measurement series with a minimum of monitoring. The scales are automatically balanced between weighings. Drift effects or any foreign bodies on the scales do not therefore cause any interference.

Field measurement and calculation of the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity K(h) using Hood Infiltrometer (Umwelt Geräte Technik, GmbH.): The Hood Infiltrometer IL-2700 is a device used for determination of saturated and unsaturated hydraulic conductivities in-situ. Compared to other Infiltrometer designs (e.g. Perroux and White, 1988; Ankeny et al, 1991; Vandervaere et al., 1997; Špongrová et al., 2009 and others), infiltrating water is in direct contact with the infiltration surface, there is no need for any contact material, and only cutting the vegetation cover to the approx. 5 mm height is needed. The contact material creates an additional layer, which can affect the infiltration process and makes the subsequent data analysis more complicated. The FOG calcimeter enables the measurement of the carbonate content in soil samples. This is a decisive parameter for soil fertility and plant health, but also in other areas such as in the production of cement and porcelain or for deep drilling. With the digital recording of data, ease of use and small footprint, the FOG calcimeters offer many advantages over the traditional Scheibler apparatus. As with the Scheibler method, hydrochloric acid is added to the soil or sediment sample and the carbonate content is determined via the CO2 production. However, this is not done via the volume, but via the increase in pressure - with patented temperature compensation and very accurately. Once the measurement is complete (approx. 30 seconds), the result is displayed immediately and saved automatically.   The FOG-II Field-Calcimeter is supplied with all accessories in a portable field case. The measurement is carried out using a battery-operated hand-held device with internal memory for 50 measurements and an optional GPS receiver.
