It becomes important to use locally available biomass as a raw material for briquette / pellets. One of the most important selection criterion should be that raw material for briquette should not be a cattle feed. Ash content of biomass should be low and should have high calorific value.Mustard straw is one such biomass which is abundantly available in Rajasthan and surrounding areas of Punjab, Haryana, M.P. and Gujarat. Unfortunately, some reputed boiler manufacturers are not recomending mustard straw based briquettes for their boilers. Steamax Fuel Supplier had been supplying mustard straw based briquettes for 20-25 customers in various states of northern India and Gujarat. Advantage with us is that our technically competent team is doing boiler O&M on these sites. Mustard straw contains some amount of sodium and potassium salts because of which its ash fusion temperature is low. Boiler manufacturer needs to take care of this point while designing their boilers on briquette. Given a choice we will prefer 100% water tube boiler design with automatic soot cleaning arrangement while handling mustard straw based briquette.
