Dot Pin marking machine can never be used for superficial markings simply because it uses machine formation process as opposed to material burning or removal process.A Laser marking machine is a simple CNC marking machine where a laser beam is used for marking instead of a Pin. But it does not produce a deep marking. When you call it a marking machine it is not supposed to mark more than 100 microns. They are used for very superficial depth markings ranging between 10 to 50 microns. When you require marking deeper than 100 microns you need to use ‘Laser Engraving Application. These can be used only on functional components such as furniture or similar diameters where superficial marking is required.

A laser machine produces burning effect while the pin machines produces indent. A laser machine burns the materials to mark the information while the pin marking machine simply displaces the materials to in the area of marking. Even though both the technologies are used for marking, they are technically incomparable. A laser marking machine produces an ‘itching effect’ while pin marking machine produced a ‘punching’. Pin marking is a CNC alternative to the number punching machine which is standard types hammered on to the component. It is a CNC replacement to the punching process. Laser marking is a direct replacement to the chemical itching process.
