A CNC router moves & cuts in three directions. the X-axis is usually the longest & runs from front to back. the Y-axis goes from left to right & the Z-axis up & down. Once the design is ready, the material must be placed on the mechanical base. The motors moves the axis back & forth on a separate device called a Gantry to make the cuts. Spindle provide the cutting power by spinning the router bits. CNC bits are similar to drill bits & come in many different sizes & types. The main benefit of CNC router is automation. Quality & quantity of products are both multiplied & the need for manual supervision of so many small, menial tasks is eliminated. Labour costs are reduced, since you need far fewer people to work on a project. You need skilled employee to handle the router. Using CNC router reduces waste by making the most efficient use of wood or other raw material. How many Axis 3axis: The standard router features an 8’ long X axis, a 4’ Y axis & a 6” Z axis. 4axis: The additional of a fourth axis allows material to be rotated around vertical axis or on a CNC lathe for architectural millwork or advanced artistic carvings. 5axis:Offers two additional axis for rotating parts & cutting three-dimensional objects without having to reposition them. Motors:- stepper v/s servo Stepper motors are extremely reliable & require very little maintenance. However there accuracy is doubtful. Their performance depends on speed. Stepper is having high torque (the force that causes rotation) at low speeds, but may suffer from choppy performance. High speed are smoother but don’t have as much torque. Servo are very accurate & smooth & the result is fine resolution of the finished products, but they are more expensive & require more maintenance. Drive system The motors are connected to one of three different drive systems to drive the router axis: Ball screw: Large screw drives with ball bearings that run around the Gantry. Lead screw: Similar to ball screw drive but without ball bearings. Rack & pinion: Straight gear drives. The drive system affects the cut quality & accuracy. For detailed cuts that need to fit together perfectly or for the engraving, ball screw drives are the best. However, they are expensive. Lead screw & rack & pinion drives are much cheaper but may provide a lower cut quality because of backlash when the motor changes direction. Spindle CNC routers can have either manual single-cutter spindle or automatic tool changing (ATC) capability. This means you can either perform a cut stop the process & change the bit by hand or use a spindle that actually picks up a bit makes a cut & switches to a new bit. Power save A CNC router actually uses more power if you turn it off repeatedly than if you just leave it ON throughout the day. It takes a lot of power to get a router started & you can wear out the motors by turning it ON & OFF too frequently. Router bits CNC router bits are available in many shapes & sizes. They must be kept sharp at all times to ensure accuracy. Carbide tipped bits are relatively inexpensive but they wear out quickly; diamond tipped or abrasive bits are much more expensive but they last longer.

Tangential knife The Tangential Knife is a robust knife cutting tool intended for heavier, thicker and harder materials than a traditional drag knife can accommodate. A Tangential knife is a cutting blade that follows the plot lines of a shape by incrementally rotating the blade to match the path. This method provides for straight cut corners at any angle. A range of optional interchangeable blade holders are available for the Tangential Knife which enable it to be used for cutting rubber, composites and a wide selection of soft and semi rigid materials.
