The Cobb sizing test is done to determine an adequacy level of paperboard, in which a test sample is first weighed and then placed in a watertight rubber base cylindrical ring. Now, the cylindrical container is filled with sufficient quantity of water, exposing the upper side of the sample to the water. After a specific time period, the water is drained, and remaining water blotted off the surface of the paper, and the weight of the sample is measured again. The increased weight the sample has gained is its water absorbency.
