The GLOBE Elmendorf Tear Tester consists of a brass sector pendulum pivoted on low-friction ball bearings over a vertical bracket fixed on a rigid metallic base. The test specimen, in shape of a rectangle, is held between two clamps, one of which is mounted on the pendulum and the other is mounted on the vertical bracket. The clamps are mounted in such a manner that their holding faces are aligned with each other when the pendulum is locked in its raised position. The pendulum is released by lifting a release lever. This action causes the pendulum to fall down under its weight and to tear the test specimen while doing so. The energy absorbed during tearing is indicated on a scale fitted on the pendulum by a low friction pointer pivoted on the axis of the pendulum. An adjustable knife is also mounted on the pendulum support bracket. It is centered between the two clamps and is used for making the initial slit in the test specimen. A check weight is supplied with the tester for verification of the scale. The apparatus is finished in shore blue matalic painting and bright chrome plating to give it a corrosion resistant finish. Augmenting weights for increasing the range of the tester for testing high strength materials are available as optional accessories. Low strength materials can be tested by mounting multiple specimens at the same time.

The GLOBE Shoe Flex Tester simulates the effect of actual walking action on the shoe. The test specimen is held rigidly at the toe portion using a suitable toe last and clamp, while the heel portion has a separate last on which the shoe is firmly tied as in actual use. The upper end of the last has an arrangement to connect a suitable link mechanism. The link mechanism is connected to an eccentric pin on a rotating disc to give the link a to and fro movement. Both the eccentricity of the pin in the disc and the length of the link are adjustable to give various angles of deflection of the shoe with respect to the flat portion of the toe which is rigidly held by the clamp. Movement to the rotating disc is given by means of a motor and two stage V belt and pulley arrangement. A digital type pre-set counter with key reset and memory backup is provided to record the total number of test cycles, and also to stop the motor on completion of set number of cycles. The apparatus is finished in shore blue matalic painting and bright chrome plating to give it a corrosion resistant finish. The standard tester is designed to test one pair of shoes at a time. Special models capable of testing two, four, or six pairs of shoes simultaneously are also available

The GLOBE Melt Flow Index Apparatus for thermoplastic materials consists of a heated extruder tube, a removable jet through which the material under test is extruded, and a piston and dead weights to apply the specified pressure on the material inside the extruder tube. The extruder tube is made from hardened die steel and is heated by means of two band heaters, which surround its outer circumference. A PID type digital temperature indicator-cum-controller is provided to indicate and control the temperature of the tube accurately. The heaters are lagged with mineral wool for providing thermal insulation. A cylindrical cavity is provided in the extruder tube for placing the test charge in during the test. The tube also has a hole parallel to the cavity for placing the temperature sensor in. The bottom of the tube is lagged with a 3 mm thick insulation of PTFE to prevent sticking of the extruder. A hollow metallic cylindrical shield is provided all around the extruder tube. The jet through which the extruder is pushed out is made from hardened and ground die steel. It is placed at the bottom of the extruder cavity and can be removed for cleaning by pushing it from the lower side. The extruder assembly is mounted on a swivable metallic plate to enable it to be titled for removal of the die for cleaning. A piston made from stainless steel, relieved at the upper end, is provided to apply pressure on the charge placed inside the cavity of the extruder tube. A sleeve is provided to guide the relieved portion of the piston. The top of the piston carries a platform for keeping the load on. The piston is thermally insulated from the load. A sheet metal control panel is mounted on the side of the equipment and houses the temperature controller and other electrical components. The equipment is finished in shore blue matalic painting and bright chrome plating to give it a corrosion resistant finish. One cleaning tool for the test cavity, one cleaning tool for the hole in the jet, one packing rod for pressing the charge inside the cavity, one plug for closing the hole in the jet when testing high flow rate materials, one cutting tool for extrudate, and one tool for pushing out the jet for cleaning, are supplied with the equipment. Dead weights for applying loads of 325 g, 1050 g, 2160 g, 5000 g, and 10000 g including the weight of the piston assembly are also supplied as standard accessories.

The GLOBE Flexometer is built on a rigid metallic base plate. Test specimens are held between a pair of stationary and oscillating grips. The grips are specially designed to enable quick fixing and removal of test specimens and are shaped to meet the specification of the test. Motion to the oscillating grips is given through a link mechanism, which oscillates the shaft on which the grips are mounted. All the pivot points of the mechanism have ball bearings to ensure smooth operation and a long working life. The link mechanism is give motion from an electric motor and two sets of V-pulleys. A six-digit electronic counter with key-reset and backup memory is provided to record the total number of flexing cycles undergone by the test specimens. The apparatus is finished in bright chrome / zinc plating and shore blue matalic painting to give it a corrosion resistant finish. The standard model of flexometer can test upto six specimens at one time. Special models capable of testing either twelve or twenty-four test specimens at one time can also be offered against specific requirements.
