Compressed asbestos fibre (caf) jointing gaskets are manufactured from carefully selected chrysotile fibres, intimately blended with suitable heat resisting binders and fillers and vulcanized into sheets of homogenous compositions and uniform thickness. To avoid the necessity of producing perfect finish on the contact faces of a mechanical assembly, which is not only costly but quite often impracticable, a gasket of compressed asbestos fibre jointing enables a tight seal to be created and maintained between separable members. The seal is effected by the yielding, or the flow of the jointing material into the imperfections of the joint contact faces. In this way the gasket provides an unbroken barrier of homogenous structure through which no pathways exist for escape of the confined media.

Asbestos Gaskets are die cut or circle cut from compressed asbestos fibre/non asbestos jointings which are manufactured from carefully selected chrysolite fibre intimately blended with suitable heat resistant binders etc. and vulcanised into sheets of homogenous compositions and uniform thickness. CAF/Non Asbestos cut gasket seal is affected by yielding or flow of material into the imperfections of joint contact faces. These gaskets are used in different industrial applications. The temperature of application ranges from 380 °C (716 °F) to 650 °C (1202 °F). The pressure of application ranges from 29.42 bar (30 kg/cm2) to 196.13 bar (200 kg/cm2). These gaskets are capable of catering to the distortions between the flanges. They compress in the imperfections of the flanges to create initial seal on application of sealing force. These gaskets are capable of withstanding chemical attack from the media being handled and also the effects of high temperatures and high pressures.

These gaskets are made using selected chrysotile fibres & are flawlessly blended with suitable heat resisting binders as well as fillers & vulcanized into sheets of uniform composition and thickness. We follow standard specification to suit to the flanges. Asbestos gaskets are still regarded as one of the best gasket materials due to its high temperature capabililties, chemical resistance and its mechanical strength which allows the gasket hold a lower percentage of rubber binder. This type of gasket is tough, durable and dimensionally stable, relatively incompressible and exhibits low creep characteristics. It also has the ability to effectively form a seal over a wide range of service conditions which has given it a good reputation. Compressed asbestos fiber(CAF) gaskets have good chemical resistance capabilities and a good working temperature range of cryogenic to 1,100F. It is less suitable for low bolt loads such as use with non-metallic flanges and low grade bolts, and is not suitable for use in stainless steel flanges due to its chlorine content which will damage the flanges. However, CAF gaskets can be installed relatively easily due to their ability to handle mechanical abuse, incorrect fitting and bolt-load retorquing.

However, please note, usage of Asbestos is against the health and Safety of your fellow employees and Company OHSAS Policy.  Asbestos is extremely dangerous and even in the bonded form still releases the dangerous fibers when Cut, Sawn, Grinded or removal of old & used Gaskets from the flange. Proper PPE & Instructions as per IS 11791 Part 3 must be followed for safe usage of CAF Gaskets. Extreme care must be taken when removing them from the Pipe Flanges to ensure zero dust.
