Roller Presses for Briquetting, Compaction and Grinding Köppern roller presses are centered around two counter-rotating rollers, supported in the frame by spherical, self-aligning roller bearings. In addition to radial loads, the bearings are able to accommodate axial loads acting in both directions, making them insensitive to shaft-skewing during operation. The fixed roller is supported directly on the press frame, while the so-called floating roller is supported in the frame by a hydro-pneumatic spring. The movement of the floating roller constitutes the basic principle of a roller press. The extent of the roller movement (roller gap) is a function of the pressing force generated by the hydraulic system in relation to the reaction forces exerted by the material being processed and the preset "zero-position" of the roller gap. The gap itself is controlled by means of the hydraulic supply unit depending on the requirements of the specific process. This design feature guarantees that all the feed material passes through the roller gap under the same process conditions, thus ensuring that the output quality of the product remains constant.
