Certain critical Equipment, especially Medical Equipment, require Solid State Voltage Stabilizers with Galvanic Isolation between Mains Input and Equipment. Also the Equipment needs to be protected against spikes, voltage, surges, glitches, noise, etc. which is not possible with conventional Servo Voltage Controlled Stabilizers.   A special type of Stabilizer, called C.V.T (Constant Voltage Stabilizer) is used for such applications. A CVT works on magnetic saturation principle, resonating with a tank circuit of High Q factor. When incoming Mains Voltage is low the capacitor provides the necessary additional gain in power, keeping the output voltage steady. On the other hand, when the Mains Voltage is high the leakage reactance drops the difference of voltage. This correction of voltage is instantaneous even for sudden dips and spikes. In an Elent CVT, the AC mains powers the input winding which is widely separated physically from the isolated output winding. The input winding normally runs at very moderate Flux linkage levels. The output winding exhibits an intrinsic energy characteristic and this energy storage operates in conjunction with mains capacitor to produce self-generated AC flux field which is indirectly excited from the input winding. When the iron core of a transformer is in saturation, relatively large changes in winding current results in very small changes in magnetic flux. Winding current and magnetic flux are proportional to the input and output voltage, respectively. This means that relatively large changes in input voltage result in small changes in output voltage: this being the fundamental purpose of an automatic voltage regulator. additionally, the ferro voltage regulator, by its unique design, provides good isolation of load equipment from line noise and surges. The output voltage regulation is also smooth so long as the manufacturer has taken steps to minimize the distortion that is caused by operation in the saturation region. Ferro voltage regulators can be very durable with some manufacturers offering warranties in excess of 10 years. one unusual operating characteristic of the ferro voltage regulator is that its design can limit the amount of current to the load. When is load current exceeds about 150% of rated current of a ferro voltage regulator, the unit is “pulled” out of the saturation region, the output voltage collapses to a very small value and the current is thereby limited.
