The thrust ball bearings are mainly used to carry the axial load only, as when a load is properly applied to this bearing, the internal contact points get aligned on a plane parallel to the shaft. The bearings are can be easy separated as the washers and the ball and cage assembly can be mounted separately. The single direction bearings can bear axial load in one direction and locate shaft axially in one direction, but the bi-directional bearings can support loads in both directions.
