An official definition adopted by the Fluid Controls Institute is :
A closed vessel with cleanable
screen element designed to remove and retain foreign particles down to 0.0254 mm
∅
from
variable flowing fluids”
Note the term foreign particles. Strainers do not necessarily remove only
dirt. They take out material that is not wanted in the fluid and this can sometime
be a valuable
product that may be saved.

Y strainers are devices for mechanically removing
solids from flowing liquids or gases by means of
a perforated or wire mesh straini
ng element. They are used in pipelines to protect equipment such
as pumps, meters, control valves, steam traps and regulators.
Although there are occasional exceptions, the use of
Y strainers generally follows several rules.
First, they are ordinarily employed where the amount of material to be removed is small. Size for
size, their dirt holding capacity is less than a basket strainer. Next, Y strainers are usually installed
when frequent clean-out is not needed. Ther
e are Y strainers in service on steam lines, for
example, that are not cleaned more than once a year. Generally, Y strainers are used with gases
such as steam or air. Basket strainers are used with liquids.

We offer Sight Flow Indicator.
Sight flow Indicators are used to observe flow. They are relatively simple devices that can be expected to be
extremely reliable if the following criteria are met:
1)
The proper unit must be selected for the service intended.
2)
Large and rapid thermal changes must not be imposed on the unit.
3)
Normal standards of good workmanship must be employed in the installation and maintenance of the
unit.
“ARSEN” Sight Flow Indicator product line includes an
extensive configuration of Sight Flow Indicators.
These indicators are fitted with toughened glass discs an
d have been designed to enhance the safety for the
operator who envisages the need to view the process media as it flows through the pipe line.
