Vibrating fork level switch consists of two forks or two arms which vibrate continuously because of their contact with piezo electric crystals. Hence the name vibrating fork. The tuning fork vibrates at its mechanical resonance frequency of about 1000 Hz. The frequency changes when the fork is covered by the medium. This change is detected by the integrated oscillator and converted into an output – Relay, PNP or analog. The material could be a viscous liquid, slurry or even free flowing powders. The vibrating fork level switch is specifically suited for sensing the presence of low-density dry powders or fine granular solids in bunkers and silos. It’s stainless steel symmetrical fork offers reliable operation with even very low-density materials.

In point level measurement with vibrating level switches, a rod or a fork is set vibrating. When the vibrating probe comes into contact with the medium, the vibration changes and the device outputs a switching command. Vibrating level switches are used in liquids as well as in granular and powdery bulk solids.
