Quench oil serves two primary functions. It facilitates hardening of steel by controlling heat transfer during quenching, and it enhances wetting of steel during quenching to minimize the formation of undesirable thermal and transformational gradients which may lead to increased distortion and cracking. Heat transfer in this region is exponentially dependent on the oil’s viscosity, which will vary with the degree of oil decomposition. Oil degradation is often accompanied by sludge and varnish formation. The presence of sludge may cause non-uniform heat transfer, increased thermal gradients Another source of non-uniform heat transfer is quench oil contamination due to water.

The wire while being drawn through the die, heats up the die and tool which is cooled by the coolant. As more tiny wear metal particles get into the coolant, the viscosity increases and affects heat transfer adversely. The Centrifuge is capable of removing these tiny particles to maintain the viscosity of the coolant and have effective heat transfer reducing the number of wire breakages, The Centrifuge being a cleanable unit has no consumable parts and replaces the conventional paper band filter.

Any boiler's capability to burn commercial grades of Heavy Fuel Oil is dependent on the fuel characteristics and the level of contaminants in the fuel. As fuel grade and quality decrease, the resultant impact on the burner’s operating reliability and economics will be strongly influenced by the ability of fuel handling systems available to provide properly treated fuel. Insolubles in the Thermic fluid can cause havoc with the performance of the system, even leading to choking of the complete system. This is one of the major reasons for discontinuing the use of Thermic fluid - the presence of percentage insolubles of more than 1%.
