These high inrush currents, decreases the life of capacitors. As contactor is a mechanical device the contacts get burnt due to inrush current & have to replace time to time also the switching limit is limited by capacitor discharge time. To solve these limitations of capacitor switching by contactors, sycon has come with thyrister switching modules.
