Head/ Drive pulley is located at the discharge end of the conveyor. It is known for providing driving force to the conveyor. May or may not be the head pulley. Usually it has a larger diameter than other pulleys in the system and is often lagged to increase traction and pulley life. The lagging on this type of pulley is usually hot vulcanized lagging with preferably diamond grooves on the face of the pulley.   Alignment of the head/ drive pulley is done keeping in view the speeds that the pulley is rotated at. Alignment is of utmost importance as to prevent the slippage of the conveyor belt from the face of the pulley. Bearing assemblies are provided with the pulley.
