Unlike liquid fill transformers which are cooled with oil or fire resistant liquid dielectric, dry type units utilize only environmentally safe, CSA and UL recognized high temperature insulation systems. Dry type transformers provide a safe and reliable power source which does not require fire proof vaults, catch basins or the venting of toxic gasses. These important safety factors allow the installation of dry type transformers inside buildings close to the load, which improves overall system regulation and reduces costly secondary line losses. Dry type transformers are a rather mature product and technology but, of all the components in a power system, a transformer replacement can be a physically challenging event, extended delivery of a replacement or repair unit and expensive transportation costs. These are transformers whose core and coils are not immersed in an insulating oil.

Hazard free to the environment, dry type transformers have over the years proven to be highly reliable. �Dry type� simply means it is cooled by normal air ventilation. The dry type transformer does not require a liquid such as oil or silicone or any other liquid to cool the electrical core and coils. Dry type transformers are voltage changing (Step-up or Step-down) or isolation device that is air cooled rather than liquid cooled. The transformer case is ventilated to allow air to flow and cool the coil (coils).

High temperature and high dielectric insulating materials like glass fiber reinforced, nomex insulating tapes are used in such a way that the entire assembly is capable of withstanding high electrical and mechanical stresses with good dissipation of heat causing low temperature rise within the prescribed limit of insulation class. Standard The Dry Type transformer are manufactured to comply with National International Standards BIS, IS 11171, IEC 76. Description The winding are made up of electrolytic Grade, Soft and bright annealed copper conductors covered with nomex insulating tapes. The wound coils are preheating and impregnated with silicon varnish under vacuum pressure and undergo a curing cycle. The low voltage coils are wound over glass fiber reinforced cylinder having high mechanical strength. The high voltage coils are supported over yoke on glazed porcelain or resin insulators. The core is made of CRGO silicon steel laminations duly annealed after shearing and assembled in mitred construction for low â��NO LOADâ�� LOSS. The yoke frame has adjustable pressure plates to clamp & secure the coils adequately. Lifting arrangements is provide on the top yoke frame so that the core and coil assembly is lifted. OFF-CIRCUIT TAMPING if required are provided on HV winding and terminated on fiber glass terminal board for changing the transformer ratio in â��OFF CKTâ�� position.
