WORKING PRINCIPLE The principle of Reflex Level Gauges is based on the difference in the refractive indices of liquid and vapour. The liquid column is contained within the recess of the liquid chamber behind the sight glass which is clamped to the gauge body. The sight glass has prismatic right angled grooves on the side facing the liquid and vapor space. Light rays entering from outside the gauge are either absorbed or reflected depending upon whether they enter the liquid or vapour space. When the ray of light encounters the surface of one of the grooves in the vapor space, it is reflected to the opposite surface of the grooves and from there, totally reflected back to the direction of observation. Thus vapour space appears as silvery white. When the light ray encounters the surface of the grooves in the liquid space, it is totally absorbed thereby the liquid behind the glass appear black.

Description :-A time-domain reflectometer (TDR) is an electronic instrument used to characterize and detect faults in metallic cables such as twisted wire pairs, coaxial cables and in the Optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) flavor, optical fibers. They serve as useful tools for locating problems in an optical network as they can compute the distance to breaks or attenuation. It also called time-down reflectometer.TDR is typically used for testing very long cable runs, in cases where it is impossible to dig up or remove very long cables. They play an extremely important role in maintenance of telecommunication lines, as they can detect increasing resistance levels on joints and connectors as they corrode; and also growing insulation leakage as it degrades and absorbs moisture. With the help of TDR, faults in lines can be detected within very short depth.

The TDR500/3 is a hand held, compact time domain reflectometer for locating faults on metallic cables. It has a minimum resolution of 0.1 m and a 5 km maximum range depending on velocity factor selected and cable type.
