Lamella clarifiers maximize the particle settling by the use of inclined lamella parallel plates to increase the settling surface area. Influent first enters the clarifier through the flash mix tank where it is rapidly mixed with a polymer flocculants to allow the particles to separate from the water and coagulate into larger particles. Then the water enters a slow mix chamber which gently agitates the waterpolymer mix and further increases the particle size. The water flows down a settling chamber in the center channel of the clarifier and enters the plate packs through the sides and bottom. As the water flows up the plate packs the solids settle on the plate packs and slide into the sludge hopper at the bottom of the unit. The clean water at the top of the unit enters into flumes through orifices then flow to the outlet chamber.
