This is an invaluable aid in the effective understanding of the performance characteristics of reciprocating type air compressor. The compressor may be run using an AC or a DC motor. Various parameters like pressure, suction air flow, compressor speed, power input, etc., are measured. Compressor of single cylinder, two cylinder single stage and two cylinder two stage types can be studied. Optionally, it has a facility to vary the speed of the motor to get various performance parameters for better understanding.

‘THE WATER COOLER’ Test Rig enables students to study and understand Vapor Compression Cycle, its components, principle and working. All the components are mounted on rigid steel frame. The trainer consists of a hermetically sealed compressor, forced convection air-cooled condenser, filter / drier, flow meter, expansion device and coil wound type evaporator. Separate pressure gauges are provided to record suction and discharge pressures and digital temperature indicators for various temperatures. The refrigerant used is R-134 which is environment friendly. The water cooler consists of an insulated stainless steel tank around which evaporator tubes are wound and soldered. The tubes are made of refrigerated grade annealed copper tubes. This is a direct expansion type evaporator. The engine is coupled with rope brake or electrical dynamometer as per requirements. For rope brake dynamometer rope wound on a pulley with spring balance is used. A water rheostat is used for loading electrical dynamometer. The test rig can determine air fuel ratio B.H.P., I.H.P. specific fuel consumption and efficiency at various loading and heat loss in exhaust gases. SPECIFICATIONS1.
